Many young people at some point in their education find it difficult to learn at school or college, this could be for an variety of reasons. Some find it difficult to fit into the structure of school or college and the mainly standardised delivery of lessons. This mismatch can lead to conflict and a risk of exclusion. Our proposed Micro Academy will be very personal, catering for children between the ages of 16 to 19. No class will be bigger than fifteen and no Academy bigger than 50 students overall. We accept that young people learn in different contexts and in different ways and in different spaces. |
We will offer a personal curriculum, where the learner is at the centre of what we do. We will develop a learning path in the context of where the person is. This will have a very beneficial effect on the young person and the family helping them to re-engage in the learning process and re-ignite the excitement and joy of learning!
The young person in our care will have a teacher/mentor assigned to them, full time. These teacher/mentors will have a maximum of fifteen learners to look after and will be the crucial link between Academy, external agencies and family.
Each young person will be provided with a laptop computer and access to the Micro Academy web site. They will have a personal learning path and this will be a combination of vocational courses and enrichment activities. The delivery will be blended to suit the learner and will be at our Academy, an integrated work placement and a community project.
The learning provided and the evidence collected will be entirely digital and stored on the web site in combination's of text, graphic, video or audio.
If you think your child would benefit from the proposed Micro Academy then can you please register on this site and answer a few questions by following the questionnaire link below. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
